The 2019 edition of basketball tournament Khanh Hoa Province continued last year’s success with more clubs and localities joining the competition. This year’s tournament also saw a new event for junior players.
This year’s basketball tournament took place at the provincial Sports Competition Hall from August 10 to 18. 19 clubs of male players from the localities across the province participated in the tournament. Nha Trang, Cam Ranh, and Dien Khanh were the three localities having most participants. The female teams at the 2018 tournaments were poor in number; therefore, the organization board replaced women’s event with junior event in order to improve the quality and appeal of the tournament. The junior event included six teams of Nha Trang City namely Nha Trang 1, Nha Trang 2, Rocket, Ly Tu Trong, Concrete Khanh Hoa, Grenades, and three teams of Dien Khanh District and Cam Ranh City.

The 2019 tournament was just the second edition of this contest; however, it also drew many teams and spectators. Besides, most of the matches had quite good quality and were fairly exciting. These things can be regarded as a positive sign for the development of this sport in Khanh Hoa.
After a week of competition, Nha Trang 1, Khanh Hoa Concrete qualified for the final of junior event; Nha Trang 1 and Nha Trang 2 overcame other teams to enter the final competition of championship event. These two teams of this year’s championship event were also the finalists of last year’s tournament. Finally, Nha Trang 1 took down Khanh Hoa Concrete 66-49 to win the championship of junior event. In championship event, the holder Nha Trang 1 could not defend their title; the new champion has been Nha Trang 2.
As said by chief referee of the 2019 tournament Nguyen Hong Cong, the participants at 2019 provincial basketball tournament prepared quite well for the tournament, especially for junior event. Basketball in Khanh Hoa Province has been gaining momentum. In case there are more and more tournaments being organized in the future as well as investment in quality of players, the basketball clubs of Khanh Hoa probably move closer to the national level.
