The female athletes of Khanh Hoa Province played excellently and gained good results at the 2019 national beach volleyball championship taking place at Can Tho Province in September 5-8.
This year’s championship consisted of 18 male and 21 female teams from 11 provinces, cities having developing beach volleyball teams across the country. The male teams divided into six tables and female teams divided into seven tables played a round robin format. The knockout-qualified teams were decided based on the points scored in the table round. The teams played more than 70 matches in four days of the table round.
Among the participating teams of the 2019 championship, Sanest - Sanna Khanh Hoa (male and female teams), Ho Chi Minh City (male and female teams), Hai Phong (female team), and Fourth Corps (male team) were regarded as the strong favorites for the medals. Nguyen Cao Dong, coach of Sanest - Sanna Khanh Hoa highly appraised the play and form of his athletes at this year’s tournament. Khanh Hoa’s athletes played with good form compared to last year’s tournament.

Khanh Hoa sent three pairs of athletes to the 2019 championship. In women’s event, Nguyen Thi Mai - Nguyen Thi Thanh Tram and Vu Ngoc Lan Nguyen – Nguyen Le Tuong Vy of Khanh Hoa showed a superiority over the others. They overcame the pairs of other teams to qualify for the final match, winning the silver and gold medals of the event. The final of men’s event was the competition between Khanh Hoa’s pair and Ho Chi Minh City’s pair. The wrist injury of Trong Quoc affected his and his pair performance, resulting in the loss of Khanh Hoa’s team to Ho Chi Minh City’s team.
Khanh Hoa’s beach volleyball has maintained dominance in men’s event at the national tournament for over ten years so far with the excellence of Nguyen Trong Quoc and Nguyen Thanh Vinh. Whereas, the female beach volleyball athletes of Khanh Hoa often had many difficulties when facing with strong opponents from Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City. However, since experienced athlete Nguyen Thi Mai has joined Sanna-Sanest Khanh Hoa and paired with Nguyen Thi Thanh Tram, this sport has seen the dominance of Khanh Hoa athletes for many times in both men’s and women’s events. The remarkably improved skills of young athletes Lan Nguyen and Tuong Vy has also contributed to the achievements of Khanh Hoa’s team.
As said by Nguyen Cao Dong, besides the good investment of Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang reflected through their good performances, other teams such as Binh Thuan, Soc Trang, and Can Tho also showed that they have been making impressive strides in this sport.
