The badminton tournament for age groups is one of the movement sports tournaments of Khanh Hoa Province. This tournament has been regarded as an interesting playground for the badminton players in the province. Many players showed their outstanding skills in the editions of this tournament and were selected for the provincial badminton team to play at the national tournaments.

The provincial badminton team of Khanh Hoa consists of the players selected from the local movement tournaments. The tournament for age groups has been a good source of athletes for the provincial team. The 2019 edition of Khanh Hoa’s badminton tournament for age groups took place from September 12 to 15 with the participation of more than 170 teams from the cultural, information and sports centers, and other units across the province. The tournament included three events (singles, doubles, team) and seven age groups.

Nha Trang was still the unit having the most players. The team from Khanh Son District took part in the 2019 tournament with more players than the previous ones thanks to the joining of the players from local badminton clubs. This year’s tournament also saw an increase of players aged under 11 and from 12 to 15. This increase partly reflected the effectiveness of training plans for young badminton players of Khanh Hoa.
Many young players showcased good skills at this year’s tournament. For example, Ta Anh Hoang of Nha Trang gained two gold medals in women’s singles and team’s mixed doubles for players aged 12-13. Nguyen Ngoc Hoai Thanh and Nguyen Luong Kim Thanh were the two outstanding players in age category of 14 to 15 of Ninh Hoa Town. The players from the mountainous area, Khanh Son, performed well and got good results at this tournament. Khanh Son surpassed Ninh Hoa to place second on the final rankings.
The resources of Khanh Hoa have been not adequate enough to further develop this sport. In this circumstance, the movement tournaments like the provincial tournament for age groups has still been an effective means for the province’s sports sector to evaluate the quality of the local badminton clubs and centers as well as to discover skilled players for the provincial team.
Khanh Hoa’s badminton team has won some encouraging achievements at the recent national tournaments, such as two golds, two silvers and seven bronzes at the national badminton club championship taking place in Nha Trang in last April; two silvers and one bronze at the national badminton tournament for families held in Hue Province in last August.
