Vietnamese athletes win 7 golds, break 2 Asian record at 2019 Asian Weightlifting Championships

Vietnam's weightlifting delegation won seven gold medals in the first day of the ongoing 2019 Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships in Pyongyang, DPR Korea.
 

Vietnam’s weightlifting delegation won seven gold medals in the first day of the ongoing 2019 Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships in Pyongyang, DPR Korea.
 
15-year-old Do Tu Tung, who gained three golds in 49kg Men category at the 2019 IWF Youth World Championships held in America in March, continued his good form at the 2019 Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships with three golds in youth men 55kg (109 kg snatch, 137 kg clean & jerk, 246 kg total), setting two new Asian records in snatch and total lift events. In junior event, Tung obtained another gold medal with a clean & jerk lift and a bronze medal with snatch list; finished second in total lift event.

In junior women 45 kg, Pham Dinh Thi of Vietnam secured two golds with 94 kg snatch and 165 kg total; finished second in clean & jerk (71 kg) behind her teammate Khong My Phuong (75 kg).

The 2019 Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships takes place from October 21 to 27, seeing hundreds of young weightlifters from 16 countries and territories. Vietnam has sent 22 athletes to the championships. The athletes achieving excellent results at this contest will have chance to join 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
