After nearly one month, the central regional elimination of the first amateur seven-a-side football tournament at national level in Vietnam namely National Seven-a-Side Football Tournament – Hyundai Cup 2019 By TC Motor (KPL-S1) held in Nha Trang came to an end recently. Thanh Thanh Travel won the tournament, which means they qualify for the national final round (VPL-S1).

Normally, it is not easy for an amateur football tournament which takes place for a long time with just two matches played each week to attract spectators. However, the KPL-S1 captured the interest of many people. A lot of football fans came to the mini football pitch of Nha Trang University to watch the tournament. The good response from the local people amazed Pham Ngoc Tuan, Executive Committee member of Vietnam Football Federation, CEO of Vietfootball, and head of organization committee.

As said by Tuan, Khanh Hoa Province’s seven-a-side football movement has not developed as well as the movement in other localities in Vietnam. Besides, the province only has a limited number of sports facilities meeting the criteria for seven-a-side football contests. Under such circumstance, it can be said that the success of the first nation-level seven-a-side football tournament in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa was contributed much by the exciting competitions of the participating teams.

Eight teams taking part in the central regional elimination were selected based on their achievements in the local movement football tournaments and on their investment in football. Seven among eight participants were Khanh Hoa’s teams, namely Thanh Thanh, Nam Phuong, Le Bao Minh Khanh Hoa, Olympic Gym, and Van Tin FC. The remaining team was Sao Viet Ninh Thuan from Ninh Thuan Province.

For football fans in Khanh Hoa, KPL-S1 was a rare opportunity when they could saw almost all well-known players of Khanh Hoa in one tournament. The tournament was more exciting thanks to the participation of Le Tan Tai, former national player; Nguyen Hoang Quoc Chi, Khanh Hoa’s player who is playing for Quang Nam in V-League; Nguyen Van Thanh, Nguyen Khac Chi, Mai Thanh Dat (futsal Sanvinest Sanna); Lam Ti Phong, Dao Van Phong, Tan Dien (Sanna Khanh Hoa), and so on.

Sao Viet Ninh Thuan came in among top four teams in KPL-S1 and was given fair-play prize. “The tournament was organized in a professional way and had good quality. Sao Viet Ninh Thuan got good experience through this tournament. This will be a driving force for us to continue investing and developing seven-a-side football movement in Ninh Thuan Province,” said Le Dinh Giang, coach of Sao Viet Ninh Thuan.
