Trailing 2-0 within 11 minutes of the first half, Vietnam U22 foughtback and got two precious goals to advance to the semis of SEA Games 30 men’s football.

Vietnam conceded an early goal in the 5th minute as Vietnam’s goalkeeper miscued his attempted clearance straight at Thailand’ striker Supachai; the ball trundled over the line to give Thailand the lead. Vietnam’s defensive line committed another mistake in their second conceded goal only six minutes later.

In the 15th minute, Tien Linh nodded in a header off a cross from Thanh Thinh to level the score. Vietnam was given a penalty in the 68th minute after Tien Linh was brought down in the area. Tan Sinh’s spot-kick was parried by Thai goalkeeper Korraphat Nareechan, and Ha Duc Chinh failed to retrieve the rebound. However, Korraphat Nareechan was then judged to come off the goal line, and the penalty was retaken. Tien Linh made no mistake to put the ball at the back of the net.

A draw is enough for Vietnam U22 to get through the semi-finals with 13 points. Indonesia came in second with 12 points after defeating Laos 4-0. As a result, winner of Group B Vietnam will face second-placed team of Group A Cambodia; Indonesia meets Group A winner Myanmar.
