The increasing number of people who do physical exercises and sports regularly and number of families who have been recognized as sports families are some positive signs for the increasing development of Khanh Hoa Province’s movement sports in recent years.
Bustling year of sports activities
As stated by Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports, in 2019, the province gained many encouraging results in public sports movement. Specifically, 35.5% of the province’s population practiced physical exercise and sports regularly; 36.2% of the families across the province were recognized as sports families, more than 5% up on 2017. At present, the province has 26 movement sports, over 440 sports clubs and associations, which have tended to develop to thousands of members. The province organized 25 province-level sports contests, which included 19 contests being organized by the province’s budget and 6 contests being jointly organized by units, businesses and individuals.
In response to Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa Sea Festival and Visit Vietnam Year, last year, Khanh Hoa Province’s sports sector organized six movement sports contests (beach football, beach volleyball, cross country, amateur golf, beach bodybuilding, and flyboard), hosted and jointly organized three sports events (Challenge Vietnam 2019, golf KN Championship, fishing), attracting a lot of participants in and outside the country. Besides, the province maintained the organization of celebratory sports events on the occasions of International Yoga Day, Olympic running day, etc., which were joined by more than 70,000 people over the province.
The province’s sports sector cooperated with the provincial Department of Education and Training to hold two training classes equipping teachers with swimming skills and drowning prevention measures; hold a traditional martial art training class for 140 teachers to prepare for the incorporation of this sport into school curriculum. So far, 35% of schools in Khanh Hoa have formed clubs of chess, traditional martial art, vovinam, taekwondo, basketball, football, volleyball, and aerobics. Physical exercise and sports movement has also been promoted among elderly people, armed forces, and disabled people.
Improving sports contests’ quality
The increasing scale and quality of sports contests, especially the ones for children and teenagers, were a highlight of Khanh Hoa’s sports movement in 2019. The provincial U11 and U13 football contests were organized after a period of hiatus and were positively responded. Other sports contests, for example provincial futsal club contest, eleven-a-side football contest, basketball, swimming, traditional martial art, karate, taekwondo contests, also showed signs of development.
Last year, Nha Trang City hosted the central regional elimination of KPL-S1, the first amateur seven-a-side football tournament at national level in Vietnam. The tournament, jointly organized by Vietnam Football Federation and Vietfootball, captured a lot of attention and interest of both participating teams and football fans in the city. Thanh Thanh Travel of Khanh Hoa won the elimination and represented the central region to compete at the national final round in Hanoi. Finally, Thanh Thanh Travel excellently overcame strong teams of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to claim the second place.
Khanh Hoa Province, in 2019, also witnessed the establishment of many private public football centers for children and teenager of some Khanh Hoa’s former national and famous football players. These centers have not only offered useful playgrounds for children and teenagers but also created sources of young players for the provincial football teams.
