The General Department of Physical Training and Sports has just sent a document to the provinces and cities’ departments of culture, sports and tourism, national sports federations and associations over the country, concerning the prevention and control of the acute respiratory infection caused by novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in sports activities .
Accordingly, all the national and international sports tournaments in Vietnam will be temporarily postponed in February 2020; local sports contests joined by many people will be considered to be suspended. The sports centers and sports training facilities need to set plans and promptly implement the epidemic prevention and control measures against 2019-nCoV in accordance with the recommendations of the Health Ministry and medical facilities; closely monitor the access to the centers and facilities and minimize field training activities for athletes.
As for already–scheduled overseas training and competitions, the General Department of Physical Training and Sports directed the units to map out appropriate routes to avoid transiting in the countries having reported cases of 2019-nCoV; take infection prevention and control measures to ensure the health of athletes before, during and after the overseas training and competition courses.
