After a long hiatus to prevent and control the spread of COVID-19, Sanna Khanh Hoa-Bien Vietnam (S.KH-BVN) received Viettel at home for the qualifying round of Bamboo Airways National Cup 2020. Especially, this match featured the presence of Vietnam national men’s football team head coach Park Hang Seo in the stands. It is believed that the head coach went to 19-8 Nha Trang Stadium to watch the performances of his national team players, who are playing for Viettel namely Que Ngoc Hai, Trong Hoang, Hoang Duc, Tien Dung, Duc Chien, and Khac Ngoc, etc. or to look for new potential faces for the national team.

Contrary to the initial predictions, 19-8 Nha Trang Stadium witnessed a surprisingly exciting competition between the host S.KH-BVN and strong team Viettel. No one expected that Viettel, which is considered as a miniature version of the men’s national football team, had a tough time playing against a team with no excellent players and was relegated to V.League 2 last season. Heavy rain made the playing surface slippery and partly affected the quality of the encounter. Viettel controlled the match with their superiority in level; however, they struggled to net goal against S.KH-BVN who were producing a quite impressive play.
Tan Dien, S.KH-BVN’s former experienced defender, replaced well-known keeper Tuan Manh, who lately left S.KH-BVN, in goal. With his experience, Tan Dien helped and inspired young players of Khanh Hoa such as Vu Thanh Cong, Duy Anh, Hoai An, and Thanh Nhan to play confidently and form a defensive wall in front of the host’s goal. Coach Vo Dinh Tan and his players narrowly missed the opportunity to force the match go into a penalty shootout. They failed to keep a clean sheet after a defensive mistake of a defender. The loss to Viettel ended the journey of S.KH-BVN in Bamboo Airways National Cup 2020 and marked an undesired result of Khanh Hoa team in season 2020.
KH-BVN is facing many problems of financial crisis due to COVID-19 and lack of quality players in many positions. Therefore, their enthusiastic performance and high determination against an opponent with superior competence in a difficult circumstance were positively responded and praised by their supporters. The encounter with Viettel reminded football supporters of the image of KH-BVN who always played with enthusiasm, energy and good spirit of competition against any strong opponents in the previous seasons of V.League 1.
