The highlight of round 5 of the 2020 V-League 2 (the second tier of Vietnamese football) is expected to be the clash between Sanna Khanh Hoa-Bien Vietnam (S.KH-BVN) and Pho Hien at 19-8 Nha Trang Stadium at 5pm on July 1. The host S.KH-BVN are showing their confidence and good form with outstanding performances in the first four rounds of this year’s V-League 2.
Prior to the tournament, many V-League 2 teams had made a relatively huge investment of money to sigh with quality players, aiming to secure a promotion spot to V-League 1 next year. Pho Hien, Binh Dinh and Ba Ria Vung Tau are among these teams. Unlike them, S.KH-BVN joined the 2020 V-League 2 with nearly same line-up as last year. However, they are topping the rankings with 12 points after remaining unbeaten in all four matches. S.KH-BVN had a good start with a 4-1 home win over Long An; overcame Can Tho Lottery with the score 1-0 at Can Tho Stadium; defeated Dak Lak and Binh Phuoc 2-1, 1-0 respectively. Among these four matches, there were two ones in which S.KH-BVN players scored late goals in injury time. This proved that the players of S.KH-BVN always played with high determination and effort to the last minute to get as good results as they could.
The impacts of COVID-10 caused the organization committee of V-League 2 to make some changes to the tournament. Specifically, V-League 2 was divided into two stages and there is only one promotion spot for teams to compete for. In stage 1, teams play in single round robin format to decide positions. In stage 2, teams will be split into two groups A and B; six top-flight teams in stage 1 will join the race for promotion in group A while six lower teams will be grouped in group B and compete to avoid relegation.
After four rounds, the race for the promotion spot will be a fierce competition among four teams: S.KH-BVN (12 points), Ba Ria Vung Tau (11 points), Pho Hien and An Giang (eight points). S.KH-BVN are considered to have an advantage in term of experience compared to the other three teams. The representative of Khanh Hoa’s football experienced many difficulties prior to the tournament, such as the leave of goalkeeper Tuan Manh and financial problems due to COVID-19. However, coach Vo Dinh Tan and his players have persevered in practicing actively and maintained a good team spirit to cope with the difficulties. With their playing in the last four rounds, S.KH-BVN haven’t disappointed their supporters.
Pho Hien, the opponent of S.KH-BVN in round 5, was the runner-up of V-League 2019 and is proving their strength in this year’s season. They had two wins and two draws after four rounds. Pho Hien will be a formidable for S.KH-BVN with some players of Vietnam U-23 in their line-up, namely Le Ngoc Bao, Nguyen Trong Long, and Uong Ngoc Tien. Meanwhile, S.KH-BVN are expected to trouble Pho Hien with many senior experienced players, who used to play in V-League 1 for many years, such as Lam Ti Phong, Pham Trum Tinh, Dinh Khuong, Dinh Kha, Tan Tai, Ut Cuong, and Duy Thanh.
