Installing many outdoor exercise items
Since the beginning of this year, Vinh Thai Commune has invested nearly VND300 million to build a park and embellish its appearance, grow plants, install ten stone benches and ten items of outdoor exercise equipment for people in Thai Thong 1 Hamlet. This is a new model of Vinh Thai Commune. The commune used 5% of the available public land in the hamlet to pilot the model. Apart from local budget, the commune called for public contributions to build some works at the park. This model has been supported and well responded by local people and was planned to be implemented in other hamlets.

Vinh Ngoc Commune has invested in a system of cultural and sports facilities, including: communal cultural - sport center and hamlet cultural houses. However, these facilities have not been operated effectively and brought into full play due to lack of participants. Recently, thanks to the contributions from sponsors, the Commune People’s Committee installed ten outdoor exercise items at the cultural house in Ngoc Hoi 2 Hamlet and the culture-sports center in Xuan Lac Hamlet. Since then, many local people have visited to these places to do exercise and leisure activities. In the upcoming time, the commune will call for support and contributions to install outdoor exercise equipment in other hamlets.
More places for sports and leisure activities needed
Le Thi Thanh, who lives near a park in Thai Thong 1 Hamlet, said: “Previously, this area was a site at which building materials were gathered; it looked messy. Since the park was put into operation, I take my grandchild to the park to enjoy leisure activities and fresh air every day. Children now have a place to play; they love it.”
Many people go to the cultural house of Ngoc Hoi 2 Hamlet to play football, volleyball, and do exercise with outdoor equipment. Reportedly, in the past, local people, who wanted to do exercise, could go walking or ride bicycles to the beach park, which is quite far from their home. Since the cultural house was equipped with exercise equipment, many people have done exercise there. However, locals hope that the commune will install more exercise items as well as places equipped with exercise equipment so that more and more people can use them.
There are many parks, especially beach parks in the centre of Nha Trang City. These parks have been equipped with many outdoor exercise items. However, in suburban communes, there is a lack of parks and outdoor exercise equipment which can meet the demand for physical activities of people. Therefore, the implementation of the pilot model of Vinh Thai and Vinh Ngoc communes is very useful and should be replicated.
