Khanh Hoa Province in recent years has encouraged its people to practice swimming to prevent drowning accidents and regularly organized swimming training courses and competitions at district and city levels. This has created momentum for the deep development of swimming in the province.
The swimming movement in Khanh Hoa has showed visible changes in terms of quantity and quality after more than three years of implementing plans and activities on safe swimming and drowning prevention across the province. Since Khanh Hoa implemented the plan on swimming and water safety and drowning prevention in children, 2012-2020 period, the province has built a public swimming pool at Nha Trang City’s Center for Culture, Information and Sports and supported the province’s districts and towns to buy two canvas swimming pools each to install at schools. Some businesses and individuals have also invested in swimming services, helping to facilitate swimming classes.
According to the provincial Department of Culture and Sports, Nha Trang currently has most swimming pools among the localities in the province with six clusters of swimming pools. Cam Ranh City, Dien Khanh District, Ninh Hoa Town, Cam Lam District, and Van Ninh District have one cluster of swimming pools each. Swimming classes are regularly held with a large number of learners, helping to reduce drowning accidents, especially in children, over the province.
In addition to investing in facilities, every year, Khanh Hoa’s specialized agencies often organize lifesaving courses for lifesaving instructors who work at the swimming facilities over the province; cooperate with the provincial Department of Education and Training to hold swimming classes for schools’ teachers. 500 people were given certificates after 11 lifesaving classes; hundreds of teachers were offered certificates in swimming teaching.
Swimming contests are said to be the most effective way to promote swimming movement throughout the province. The quality of the recently-organized swimming contest for age groups of Khanh Hoa was highly assessed. The contest attracted more than 100 participants from the localities, such as Nha Trang, Cam Ranh, Ninh Hoa, and swimming clubs of Telecommunication University, Tran Vien Dong Club, and MH Club (formerly known as Yet Kieu Club - Nha Trang). The participation of the localities and clubs which are strong in swimming contributed to the improved quality of the tournament.
This year’s contest saw more participants than the previous years’ ones. Many players even took part in more than one category and achieved high results. This will be a driving force for the province, swimming clubs and localities to continue investing in swimming and to establish the provincial swimming team to participate in national swimming tournaments.
