The practice of martial arts in Khanh Hoa Province has resumed after a long suspension because of COVID-19 outbreak. The localities and martial arts clubs over the province are maintaining the practice and holding competitions in order to promote the development of martial arts in Khanh Hoa.

Right after the provincial People's Committee allowed the province’s cultural and sport events to resume, Nha Trang Center of Culture, Information and Sports held a taekwondo tournament for age groups in the city (from September 19 to 20). The province-level tournament also kicked off on September 27. Despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic, both city-level and province-level taekwondo tournaments for age groups were well organized. Nha Trang City’s tournament was joined by more than 100 male and female players from 11 clubs of schools and localities. Meanwhile, the province-level edition attracted more than 150 martial art practitioners of nine units and localities with strong development of martial arts.

As said by Van Thanh Danh, head coach of Khanh Hoa’s taekwondo team, chairman of Khanh Hoa’s Taekwondo Association, the localities and martial art clubs tried to overcome the difficulties and impacts of the pandemic and prepared their players for the tournaments. Their attempts contributed to the success of the city and province’s taekwondo tournaments for age groups.
After taekwondo tournaments, the provincial Department of Culture and Sports held the province-level vovinam tournament for age groups from October 2 to 4. More than 120 male and female martial art practitioners from eight localities and units, namely Cam Lam, Nha Trang, Ninh Hoa, Dien Khanh, etc., took part in the tournament in the events of combat and demonstrative. After three days of competitions, the organizer gave 20 sets of medals to the outstanding individuals and teams. The team of Cam Lam District won first place with ten gold medals, three silvers, and four bronzes. This was the second consecutive year Cam Lam District finishing first in team category.
According to Le Hung Cuong, head of Cam Lam vovinam team, vovinam movement in Cam Lam has developed very strongly. Many communes and schools in the district have vovinam clubs with numerous learners. Cam Lam vovinam team had held an internal contest to select outstanding players for the provincial tournament. The players were both physically and mentally prepared for the tournament. The team’s good achievement at the provincial tournament for age groups will be a driving force for the better development of vovinam in Cam Lam.
Reportedly, the organizers cut down the number of events of this year’s tournaments due to coronavirus concerns. This partly affected the quality of the competitions. However, throughout the performances of the participating teams, it could see that the localities and clubs in Khanh Hoa have still maintained well the practice of martial arts.
