In recent years, the schools in Khanh Hoa have properly implemented physical training programs. Students have two periods of physical training per week apart from morning exercise and exercise breaks. Vovinam has been incorporated into the compulsory curriculum of junior high schools. Vietnam’s tradition martial art is introduced in schools in 2020-2021 school-year. Mizuno Hexathlon program (program that combines an athletic ability test with playful activities) has been effectively implemented at Phuoc Tien Primary School and Van Thang Primary School (Nha Trang City). The scientific combination between physical activities and play together with sports tools help students to enjoy physical training periods.

In order to improve the professional qualifications of the physical education teachers, every year, Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Education and Training directs the teachers to take the initiative in self-training and remain up-to-date on changes of regulations and laws relating to sports; cooperate with the provincial Department of Culture and Sports to hold professional training courses.
Multi-functional sports arenas and physical education facilities have been gradually invested. Implementing the project on piloting teaching swimming to prevent drowning in primary and junior high schools in Khanh Hoa from 2017 to 2020, the provincial Department of Education and Training installed 14 canvas swimming pools in schools. According to statistics of the department, by last July, 88% of students had known how to swim after school swimming classes; 97% of students who learned swimming at other facilities could swim.
Every year, the provincial Department of Education and Training and the provincial Department of Culture and Sports cooperate to hold sports competitions for children and students in the province, such as U11 and U13 football tournaments, chess tournaments and vovinam tournaments for students, and badminton tournament for age groups. These competitions help localities and schools to discover and develop young sports talent.
However, many schools in Khanh Hoa have been facing difficulties in carrying out physical education programs effectively due to limited budget and lack of training facilities. Only around 50% of schools over the province have had sports clubs; only 35% of students have participated in extracurricular physical exercise and sports.
Some schools called for contributions from students’ parents, businesses and organizations to buy training tools and hold sports competitions for the students; however, these activities haven’t been regularly carried out. The teachers and students of Bui Thi Xuan Junior High School (Nha Trang City) relocated to a newly built school on a new site in 2018-2019 school-year. However, as said by Principal Tran Thu Tra, the schoolyard area is quite small for about 1,100 students. She hopes that the stage 2 construction of the school will be implemented soon and will include exercise ground, swimming pool, and multi-functional arena, etc. to create better conditions for the students to practice physical activities.
The provincial Department of Education and Training suggests that in order to improve the efficiency of physical education, the schools need to change their teaching content and methods to excite the students; adjust the grading criteria of physical education to motivate students to practice physical exercises outside of school. The department also proposes changing policies and mechanisms, calling for public contribution for school physical education to provide students a good environment for physical activities.
Khanh Hoa Province currently has 784 physical education teachers, two among them have master's degrees, 600 have university degrees. In 2019-2020 school-year, 119 out of 332 schools were recognized as province-level advanced units in physical education.
