Khanh Hoa’s beach volleyball has a dominant position in Vietnam’s beach volleyball not only thanks to its achievements but also its quality training and coaching work. Over the past ten years, the beach volleyball athletes of Khanh Hoa have often been superior over the athletes of other localities in most national tournaments from young level to championship level. Khanh Hoa’s beach volleyball pair Nguyen Trong Quoc – Nguyen Thanh Vinh set a national record when the pair won men’s doubles championship of the national sports festivals (held every four years) in two consecutive editions (2014 and 2018). Meanwhile, in women’s event, Nguyen Thi Mai – Nguyen Thi Thanh Tram of Khanh Hoa also asserted their leading position in this sport with a gold medal in the 2018 National Sports Festival.
With those outstanding achievements, for many years, the General Department of Physical Training and Sports and Vietnam Volleyball Federation often select Khanh Hoa athletes as the core force of the national beach volleyball team in SEA Games, ASIAN Beach Games, etc.
In addition to the achievements, Khanh Hoa beach volleyball team has also performed well their training and coaching work and achieved many encouraging results. The coaches always pay attention to help the athletes to maintain their forms and improve their skills. They also try to discover young talent for the provincial team through national tournaments for young players.
It can be said that beach volleyball has greatly contributed to raise the position of Khanh Hoa’s sports in the domestic sports playgrounds. Apart from the investment of the province, Khanh Hoa Salanganes Nest Company has played an important role in the development of beach volleyball in Khanh Hoa for many years. The company has provided financial and spiritual support to promote the development of the province’s beach volleyball. However, the economic consequences caused by COVID-19 pandemic forced the company to suspend its support for the provincial beach volleyball team since the beginning of July 2020. Since then, the team has been experiencing many difficulties. However, most of the team members have acknowledged the circumstances and remained in good spirit.
In the National 2x2 Beach Volleyball Championship held recently in Can Tho City, the athletes of Sanest Sanna Khanh Hoa still played well with a high determination. They won championships in both men’s and women’s events. However, the existing monetary policy for athletes in Khanh Hoa is too low compared to other localities, according to coach of Sanest Sanna Khanh Hoa, Nguyen Cao Dong. This will cause many difficulties for the team to retain their athletes or maintain their position in the domestic playgrounds, especially in the 2022 National Sports Festival.
As stated by Nguyen Tuan Thanh, deputy director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports, the department reported the difficulties of the provincial beach volleyball team to the provincial People’s Committee. Reportedly, the province’s leadership will hold a meeting with the relevant units to find solutions for the aforementioned difficulties in the shortest time.
