V-League 1 officially resumed with five make-up matches of round 3, stage 1 played on March 13 and 14 after a hiatus due to COVID-19 outbreak. The organization committee closely cooperated with local steering committees for COVID-19 prevention and control to intensify the prevention and control measures.
The fact that V-League 1 was able to return last weekend was thanks to the efforts of the organization committee, who have strived to ensure the tournament’s professional organization and medical protocol amid the pandemic. Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company announced the schedules and fixtures of round 3 and the following rounds and detailed guidelines on the format of the matches and health regulations in the interests of safety and health staff, players and spectators. Prior to a match, based on the decision of local authorities, the organizers and the host team will announce whether the match will be played behind closed door, with limited number of spectators or will allow spectators as normal.
The pandemic prevention and control measures have been strictly implemented. All staff, players and spectators (if allowed) are checked temperature; information and instruction boards are erected at the stadium entrance and changing rooms; stands and function rooms are cleaned and disinfected (if required); hand sanitizer bottles are placed at many places at the stadiums; all participants, excluding referees and the players who are playing on the field, must wear face masks. The number of organizers, medical staff, security forces, etc. is also limited.
Among the five make-up matches of round 3, the competition between the Quang Ninh and Ho Chi Minh City at Cam Pha Stadium (Quang Ninh Province) on March 14 was played without spectators; the remaining four matches opened door to a limited the number of spectators. Specifically, at Hoa Xuan Stadium, 2,000 spectators were allowed to attend the match between the host SHB Da Nang (one of the three teams that won the first two matches) and Hong Linh Ha Tinh (without any point). Meanwhile, Hai Phong City People's Committee permitted the awaited competition between Hai Phong, who were leading the table with six points, and Hanoi, who had lost all two first matches of the season, to be played with the attendance of 5,000 spectators. At Pleiku Stadium, 6,000 spectators saw Hoang Anh Gia Lai under the instruction of Thailand coach Kiatisuk receiving ambitious rookie Topenland Binh Dinh.
V.League 1 was taking place with unexpected results from the first two rounds and was disrupted after two matches of round 3. After two rounds, Hai Phong, Becamex Binh Duong, SHB Da Nang and Saigon were temporarily holding the top four positions with six points after two consecutive wins; defending champions Viettel and runners-up Hanoi were facing difficulties with draw or losses and dropped to the lower half of the table.
