The tournament attracts nine men’s teams and four women’s teams of Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Binh Thuan, Can Tho, Soc Trang, Air Defense - Air Force, Ninh Thuan and Khanh Hoa.

In men’s event, the teams are divided into groups A and B, competing in a single round robin format to decide the first and second teams of each group for semifinals. Women’s teams also play robin matches to decide the champion.

At the opening ceremony, all the attendees and players took a minute of silence to express their regret about the death of Vo Quang Khanh, deputy director of Binh Thuan Provincial Sports Training and Competing Center and head of Binh Thuan basketball team, who died suddenly on the same day.
On the opening day, Khanh Hoa-Shark NTU lost 46-84 to Soc Trang; Air Defense-Air Force won against Phu Tho 87-45.
