The recently-organized provincial Table Tennis Championships 2021, a tournament of Khanh Hoa Province’s 9th Sports Festival, reflected positive changes of the table tennis movement in the localities over the province.
The provincial Table Tennis Championships was the sixth sports tournament of the provincial 9th Sports Festival. The 2021 edition was organized in adaptation to COVID-19 prevention and control measures. Consequently, this year’s championships had fewer participants compared with the championships of the previous festival. Only more than 50 players from the localities of Nha Trang, Cam Ranh, Dien Khanh, Ninh Hoa, and Van Ninh, took part in the tournament.

Social distancing has caused difficulties for the localities to prepare for the tournament. This partly affected the excitements of the tournament. The localities sent their strong athletes to the 2021 tournament in order to maintain table tennis movement and increase their chances of winning medals.
The tournament took place from November 2 to 4. The players, divided into 18-to-39 group and 40-and-above group, played 35 matches in team, doubles, and singles events. This year’s tournament also marked the comeback of many experienced players of the movement table tennis in the province, namely Truong Thi Thanh Phong, Dinh Le Thanh Thao, and Doan Phuoc Dai (women's event); Ngo Hoang Nam, Tran Dang Khoi, and Nguyen Van Loi (men’s event).
At the tournament, Nha Trang still showed their superiority over other localities with nine gold medals out of the total of 12 gold medals. Cam Ranh City and Van Ninh District also showed noticeable progress. Specifically, in men’s singles and men’s doubles of 18-to-39 group, Cam Ranh players namely Doan Ngoc Binh An, Ngo Hoang Nam and Tran Dang Khoi overcame strong players of Nha Trang to win gold medals. Besides two gold medals in men’s singles and men’s doubles, Doan Ngoc Binh An achieved one silver medal in team event.
It could be seen through the 2021 tournament that the gap of skills between players from different localities was not much. Therefore, the matches were exciting and attractive. This is the basis to develop the table tennis movement and then promote the development of table tennis in the province.
