Vietnam U23 took the lead early in the 18th second as Tuan Tai took a shoot at goal which deflected off a Thailand defender. In the 34th minute, a not-good save of Vietnamese goalkeeper Van Toan saw Thailand U23 level the score. Van Toan was injured and was replaced by Van Chuan.

Thailand U23 made a lot of attacks in the closing minutes of the first half and even after the break. Benjamin Davis and Kritsada took turns to strike long-range shots, but substitute goalkeeper Van Toan did his job well.
In 73 minutes, Van Tung put Vietnam U23 ahead again with his brilliant volley. Vietnam U23 tried to protect the score, but Thailand came back again in the injury time.
