In 2018, Khanh Hoa held the first edition of the provincial swimming tournament for age groups. At that time, swimming movement just started in the localities over the province. Local children were primarily taught basic kills of swimming to be safe in water. They weren’t well trained for swimming tournaments. Although the 2018 tournament was joined by a lot of players, most of them were in Nha Trang City. After five years building the movement, the units and localities have invested well in swimming, helping the movement develop widely with better quality.

The 2022 swimming tournament was a part of the 9th provincial Sports Festival. More than 110 male and female players of the units and localities in the province participated in the tournament in the categories of free style (50-100m), breakstroke (50-100m), 4x50m relay, and 4x100m relay in women’s, men’s and team’s events. The players were divided into five age groups from 6 to 18 competing for 35 medals.
Besides Nha Trang, which has a strong swimming movement, the participation of the players of the province’s education sector, police, Youth Union, and Khanh Son District, a mountainous area, added to the exciting atmosphere of the tournament. For example, the women’s breakstroke final, age group of 12-13, had been expected to be the competition between Nha Trang and the provincial Department of Education and Training; however, the sole player of the mountainous district of Khanh Son, Cao Thi Cam Ly, overcame all other players to finish first. Reportedly, this was the first time Cam Ly has joined the tournament; she had practiced swimming at the streams in Khanh Son to prepare for the tournament.
Khanh Son District fielded nine players to the provincial 2022 swimming tournament for age groups, aiming to help the players learn experience and get acquainted with competition. It was surprised that the delegation won one gold medal and two silver medals, according to Ha Hai Trung of Khanh Son District Center of Culture, Information and Sports.
“The tournament was well organized and attracted many participants. This is really a useful playground for pupils in summer, especially for the ones in localities where swimming movement hasn’t developed strongly like Van Ninh District,” said a parent of two players of Van Ninh delegation.
At the end of the tournament, the organizers gave 35 medals to the outstanding individuals and delegations. The provincial Department of Education and Training won first prize; Nha Trang City obtained second prize; Cam Ranh City got third prizes.
