V.League 2: Khanh Hoa FC puts themselves in difficult position

Khanh Hoa FC conceded a stoppage time goal in the 1-1 draw with Long An in round 21 of the 2022 V.League 2 on October 24. This means Khanh Hoa FC have to win Can Tho in the last round to secure the promotion spot.

 

Before round 21, Khanh Hoa FC were first on point table and had a great chance to be promoted to V.League if they won Long An. Things went well for them as they led the home team 2-0 in the first half. However, they conceded a goal from penalty spot after the restart. Long An played more excitedly after the goal, dominating possession and threatening Khanh Hoa FC’s back line. 

 

 

 

Contrary to the home team, in the second half, Khanh Hoa FC displayed worse performance compared to the first half. Finally, they were made to pay as a result of a defensive mistake in the fifth stoppage minute as Thanh Khoi of Long An scored the precious goal to force the game to a draw. This was Khanh Hoa FC's 3rd draw in a row, 2 of which saw them conceding goals in the last minute of stoppage time. 

 

In the simultaneous match taking place on Ninh Binh Stadium, the 2-1 win against Pho Hien helped People's Polive regain the first place, thereby winning a promotion spot in V. League 1 next season 1 round in advance. The remaining promotion spot will be the competition between second-placed Khanh Hoa FC (39 points) and third-placed Quang Nam (37 points).

 

Both Khanh Hoa FC and Quang Nam will play at their home grounds in round 22 on October 29. Khanh Hoa FC receive Can Tho; Quang Nam meet Phu Tho.

 

Khanh Hoa FC are now 2 points ahead of Quang Nam. If they win over Can Tho, they will be promoted. In case they finish the match in a draw, and Quang Nam defeat Phu Tho, the two sides will be level on 40 points. That means Quang Nam will win the remaining promotion spot because they had scored away goals against Can Tho. A win in the last round is the only way for Khanh Hoa FC to return to V.League 1.
