Round 1 of this year’s championship started with the competitions of Group A teams (Sanest Khanh Hoa, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Ha Tinh, Da Nang), taking place in Bac Ninh Province from February 24 to January 5. This is considered not to be tough for Sanest Khanh Hoa. Except for Ho Chi Minh City, all the teams in this group are rated lower than Sanest Khanh Hoa. However, Ho Chi Minh City are facing many difficulties this season. Besides financial issue, the team had seen many leavers.

Sanest Khanh Hoa had made a quality investment to prepare for the new season. They added some new quality players. Among them is Brazilian outside hitter Douglas Bueno (born in 1993). With a height of 1.92m and quite good leap, Douglas Bueno is highly appreciated by experts thanks to his experience playing for many famous clubs in Brazil, Bahrain, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and Thailand, etc. Douglas Bueno was voted as the best outside hitter in the 2018-2019 Thailand League. Douglas Bueno together with the senior players of Sanest Khanh Hoa namey Duong Van Tien, from Thanh Thuan, Pham Thai Hung, Nguyen Van Phong etc. will be a challenge for any defenders this season.
In order to improve the setter position, which is the weakest position of Sanest Khanh Hoa, the team signed setter Dinh Van Tu. Last year, despite possessing the strongest attacking force, Sanest Khanh Hoa conceded defeat to Trang An Ninh Binh in the final match of the national championship and couldn’t defend the gold medal in the 8th National Sports Festival after losing to Army. This year, the addition of Dinh Van Tu, one of the best 3 setters of Vietnam’s volleyball, will help increase the strength of Sanest Khanh Hoa.
After Group A teams finish their competitions, round 1 will continue with the matches of Group B (scheduled to take place from March 10 to 19). After the end of the group stage, the best 4 teams of the two groups will attend Hung Vuong Cup in Phu Tho Province. Sanest Khanh Hoa are the defending champions of Hung Vuong Cup and are trying to achieve this year’s trophy to become the champions of this tournament for 3 years in a row.
