With a 3-0 victory over The Cong in the semi-final of Hung Vuong Cup 2023 in Phu Tho Province on March 23 night, Sanest Khanh Hoa volleyball team advanced to the final and are facing an opportunity to defend their championship.
Sanest Khanh Hoa showed their strength and determination at this year’s tournament with four wins in a row in round 1, topping Group A. In the semi-final match with The Cong, Sanest Khanh Hoa won 3 sets with the scores of 25-19, 25-21 and 25-20. With this win, their winning streak extended to five, which proved the competence and good form of the players of Khanh Hoa.
This year, Sanest Khanh Hoa added some quality players to their line-up such as Brazilian Douglas Bueno. However, they had a quite tough match against weaker team Ha Tinh in their first match of the tournament and struggled to win 3-2. In that match, the new players weren’t able to match well with the team’s play and didn’t display good performances. In the following match, Sanest Khanh Hoa displayed more well-organized play and overcame the opponents more easily. They ended the semi-final with The Cong, who had recruited Quoc Duy – the best attacker of the National Volleyball Championship 2022 – in over 1 hour.
Sanest Khanh Hoa are facing an opportunity to defend their championship and win their fifth trophy of Hung Vuong Cup. After 1 year of taking charge of Sanest Khanh Hoa, coach Bui Quang Ngoc hasn’t won any title in official tournaments. In 2022, coach Ngoc led Sanest Khanh Hoa to the final of the National Championship and the 9th National Sports Festival, but the team ended at second position in both tournaments. If Sanest Khanh Hoa win the final of Hung Vuong Cup 2023, coach Ngoc and his team will set a record in Vietnam’s volleyball as a team besides The Cong winning the championship three times in a row.
