Interesting junior basketball tournament in Nha Trang

Nha Trang City’s junior basketball open tournament 2023 taking place recently was an interesting playground in summer for young basketball lovers in Nha Trang City and other localities in the province. 

Khanh Hoa Province’s basketball is witnessing a strong basketball development of schools, clubs, localities, and professional teams. Nha Trang City is the locality with the most developed basketball movement in the province. Its first junior basketball tournament in 2009 attracted the intention of the public. Since then, the city’s basketball movement has been promoted and developed strongly with increasing numbers of participants and quality of tournaments. 

Men's final between CRC and JR. Young Kings

Nha Trang City’s junior basketball open tournament 2023 took place at Nha Trang Sports Training and Competition Center, joined by 15 male teams and 4 female teams of localities and clubs in Nha Trang City, Cam Ranh City and Ninh Hoa Town. Each match day saw 4 to 6 games, creating a lively and animated atmosphere at the sports arena. A lot of people came to see the games and cheered for their favorite teams. 

The most exciting game was the men’s final between JR. Young Kings (Van Thanh Ward) and CRC (Cam Ranh City). With the rousing cheer from home supporters, JR. Young Kings made a better start and created several attacks to the hoop of CRC. They led 27-10 after the first 2 sets. CRC’s way of playing changed after substitute Nhat Thien entered the court. CRC displayed a smoother play. They not only successfully prevented the attacks from the key players of JR. Young Kings but also scored 32 points in the paint, which was 3 times more than their points in the previous 2 sets. In the last 10 seconds of the game when the score was 40-40, Nhat Thien made an accurate 2-point shot to hand CRC a comeback 42-40 victory.

In women’s event, Grenades of Van Thang Ward won the championship after winning all 3 games. Other 2 teams of Nha Trang City placed second and third. 

As said by Vo Duc Tin, head coach of CRC, the team has participated in many editions of Nha Trang City’s junior basketball open tournament and found it very difficult to reach the top four. Securing the 2023 championship was a success beyond their expectation. Tin also highly appreciated the quality of the tournament.
