Changing the format and stricter regulations on players’ responsibilities towards the national volleyball team are the notable new points of the national volleyball championship 2024.
National volleyball championship 2024 promising to be more exciting with new points |
The Vietnam Volleyball Federation has recently issued the regulations of the national volleyball championship 2024 with many new points, which were highly appreciated by experts. The most notable change is the format. Accordingly, from the 2024 season, 9 male and 9 female teams will compete in 2 stages instead of being divided into groups and playing 2 rounds (round 1, round 2 and final ranking round) like the previous seasons. In stage 1, the teams compete in league (single round robin) format and are ranked from 1st to 9th based on points. In stage 2, the top 4 teams play the final round; the fifth-placed team stay up; the teams from 6th to 9th places battle for survival in a round robin competition (2 teams with the lowest points will be relegated to division A). This new format allows all the teams to have opportunities to play each other, which will increase the excitement of the competitions for the top places and survival.
There is also a change in the competition location and time. The men's and women's events will take place in different time and locations to help supporters access to the matches more time conveniently. Specifically, the female teams play stage 1 in Binh Phuoc Province from March 16 to 23, 2024 and stage 2 in Lao Cai Province on November 9-11. In men’s event, stage 1 takes place in Ha Tinh Province from March 30 to April 6, 2024; stage 2 is played in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province from November 23 to December 1, 2024. This change of location and time is expected to help the teams reduce their expense and have more time to rest and recover between competitions.
Besides the format, starting from the 2024 season, the organization committee imposes stricter regulations on the athletes' responsibilities towards the national teams. Accordingly, the athletes who don’t follow the summons to the national team or national youth team to prepare for international tournaments made by the Vietnam Volleyball Federation and the Sports Authority of Vietnam for any reason (except for force majeure and consent of the federation) will be disqualified from taking part in tournaments in the following years.
The aforementioned changes show the efforts of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation in improving and enhancing the quality of the national championship, volleyball clubs and national volleyball teams. They also aim to gradually professionalize the domestic volleyball in order to keep up with the general development of strong volleyball countries in the region and the world.
