Lively sports festival for pupils

Thousands of pupils in Khanh Hoa Province are actively participating in the provincial Phu Dong sports festival, 2023-2024 school year. Held periodically every 4 years, Phu Dong sports festival is not only a sports festival for pupils but also an opportunity for the province’s education and sports sectors to discover sports talent.

Khanh Hoa’s 2023-2024 school year Phu Dong sports festival takes place from March 27 to April5, joined by over 3,000 people, including 479 teachers and 2,682 pupils of high schools and bureaus of education and training over the province. The pupils compete for 177 sets of medals for individuals, groups and teams in 11 events including athletics, swimming, physical exercise, chess, badminton, shuttlecock kicking, table tennis, football, volleyball, basketball, and stick pushing.

With the slogan "honest, magnanimous", "faster, higher, farther", this year’s Phu Dong sports festival of Khanh Hoa have been well responded by the participating units. At the end of the 2022-2023 school year, Khanh Son District organized its version of Phu Dong sports festival to select outstanding players for the provincial festival. In recent years, Khanh Son District has made better investment in sports facilities, which resulted in the improvement of the local sports movement. This year, Khanh Son focuses in athletics, football, stick pushing, etc., which are their forte, including 5 sports in primary school category and 6 ones in junior high school category.

Thanks to careful preparation, the pupils have good physical and sprit conditions as well as high determination for the sports festival. Nguyen Thanh Tan, pupil at Hoang Van Thu High School (Nha Trang City), had attentively learned about the technique of long jump and tried his best to practice this sport with the hope of getting high achievement in the festival.

Indoor football

The physical education in schools and the quality of the provincial 2023-204 school year Phu Dong sports festival are better than the previous years, according to Le Dinh Thuan, deputy director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Education and Training. The number of players increases by more than 300 players compared to the 2020 - 2021 school year festival (2,300 players).

The intense competitiveness among the teams and determination of the players partly proved the attention and investment of the schools in physical education. Phu Dong sports festival aims mainly to strengthen the campaign “All people take exercises following the example of great Uncle Ho”; promote sports movement in schools and encourage pupils to practice physical exercise and sports to improve their health. This year’s sports festival also serves as a playground to discover gifted players for the provincial sports teams to prepare for the upcoming regional Phu Dong festival in Quang Nam Province in and the national Phu Dong festival in Hai Phong Province.
