Developing physical exercise and sports in new period

Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Standing Committee has just issued the plan on implementation of the Politburo’s resolution and conclusion on the development of physical exercise and sports in new period. 

Maintaining and developing physical exercise and sports activities stably 

Khanh Hoa Province’s physical exercise and sports activities have been maintained and developed stably. Currently, the province’s percentage of people doing physical exercise and sports regularly is 35.9% and percentage of sports families is 36.5%. There are 480 grassroots sports clubs and 15 province-level sports federations and club associations. In 2023, there were 18 province-level sports tournaments, 126 commune-level ones and 896 district-level ones. The province’s sports sector successfully hosted and jointly organized 20 national and international sports tournaments, including some major tournaments such as VBA professional basketball tournament; Oceanman Cam Ranh Vietnam 2024; Khanh Hoa – Japan golf tournament; Vinpearl DIC Legends Vietnam; VnExpress Marathon Marvelous Nha Trang, attracting thousands of athletes and tourists.

The province now has a stadium, a multipurpose sports arena, beach volleyball courts, and a training center for high-performance athletes. All 8 districts, towns and cities in the province (excluding Truong Sa (Spratly) District) have cultural, information and sports centers. Physical education, school sports activities, and sports movements in the armed forces have been implemented effectively, among them was the implementation of school program on preventing children drowning with 3,617/222,349 students who can swim after learning swimming at schools and 27,893 students who can swim after learning swimming at other facilities. The province's high-performance sports have also been maintained stably and achieved encouraging results. In 2023, the provincial sports teams participated in 68 national and international tournaments, achieving 249 sets of medals of all kinds; 46 athletes achieved grandmaster level, 76 athletes reached national level 1; 25 coaches and athletes were called up for the national teams of athletics, beach volleyball, indoor volleyball, taekwondo, weightlifting, muay Thai, bodybuilding and karate, etc.

Ensuring practicality and effectiveness

According to Nguyen Tuan Thanh, deputy director of the Provincial Department of Culture and Sports, in order to strongly promote the development of the province's physical exercise and sports in the time to come, the Provincial Party Standing Committee issued Plan No. 206 on the implementation of Resolution No. 08 and Conclusion No. 70 of the Politburo on development of physical exercise and sports in the new period. According to the plan, the development of physical exercise and sports in the new period must ensure practicality and effectiveness in accordance with the implementation of Resolution No.09 of the Politburo on building and developing Khanh Hoa Province to 2030, with a vision to 2045.

The plan aims to improve local people’s health, physical strength, stature, quality of life, and life expectancy; help the people build a habit of practicing physical exercise; improve the quality of athlete selection and training; and gradually improve the ranking of Khanh Hoa’s sports at national sports tournaments and festivals. Additionally, other goals are to strongly develop the province’s sports business and services, turning sports into a comprehensive service industry; and introduce the image of Khanh Hoa to domestic and international tourists. The plan also aims to develop high performance sports in depth; prioritize investment and development of key and strong sports and Olympic sports; promote public contribution on high-performance sports; encourage federations and enterprises to sponsor funds to form provincial sports teams to compete in national and international competitions; promote the development of recreational, adventure and sea sports activities.

According to the plan’s targets, by 2030, more than 39% of the population and more than 37% of households in the province will have practiced physical exercise and sports regularly. Each year, at least 20 province-level sports tournaments, 12 district-level tournaments and 3 commune-level sports tournaments are organized. 100% of schools in the province will have enough physical teachers and quality sports facilities. Every year, around 400 to 700 athletes are trained for provincial teams, youth teams and gifted teams. The province’s high-performance sports aims to place among the top 20 at the 2026 National Sports Festival and 18th at the 11th Congress 2030.
