Khanh Hoa Province’s swimming tournament for age groups 2024 gathered almost all strong swimmers of the localities and units across the province and was highly appreciated for its excitement and quality.
Taking place in Nha Trang City on July 11 and 12, this year's provincial swimming tournament for age groups attracted 176 male and female swimmers from 9 teams from 8 districts, towns, cities in the province and the Provincial Vietnam Youth Federation. At the tournament, the swimmers were divided into 4 age groups, 7-9 years old, 10-11 years old, 12-13 years old and 14-15 years old, competing in 28 individual competition events and 6 relay events for 34 sets of medals. After 7 years, it can be said that the tournament is an exciting and high-quality playground, which shows strong investment in swimming movement of the local units, according to Nguyen Tuan Thanh, deputy director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports, head of the organization committee. Among local movement sports tournaments, the provincial swimming tournament for age groups stands out for its notable improvements in both quality and quantity.
The tournament saw 115 swimmers in 2022, 150 swimmers in 2023 and 176 swimmers in 2024. 1 month prior to the 2024 edition, most of the localities organized district-level tournaments to select outstanding swimmers for the provincial tournament. Cam Lam District had selected 29 quality swimmers through its local tournament and set a high target at this year’s provincial tournament despite the fact that they didn’t get good results at the previous years’ tournaments due to financial difficulties. Cam Lam’s investment in this year’s tournament earned them 1 gold medal, 2 silvers and 4 bronzes, which was an encouraging achievement.
At this year’s tournament, some young swimmers revealed themselves as potential athletes who promise to become promising athletes for Khanh Hoa’s swimming teams at national and regional tournaments and festivals in the future if they are well trained and invested. The swimmers from Nha Trang City, which is considered the cradle of the province’s swimming movement, stood out among the new outstanding faces. For example, Pham Ke Khoi Nguyen (born in 2009) won 3 gold medals in individual and team events for Nha Trang team. According to Khoi Nguyen, this year's tournament was relatively more competitive in all events compared to the previous years, which helped the contestants gain better experience to improve their skills.
With 17 gold medals, 6 silver medals and 2 bronze medals, Nha Trang finished first at the provincial swimming tournament for age groups 2024.
