Free swimming class for disadvantaged children 

Nha Trang City Center of Culture, Information and Sports in cooperation with Vinh Phuoc Ward People's Committee has opened a free swimming class for disadvantaged children in order to teach them swimming and basic water safety skills.

The free swimming class, taught by two swimming instructors of Nha Trang City Center of Culture, Information and Sports, takes place at around 6:15am every day in the sea at Hon Chong area (Pham Van Dong Street, Nha Trang City). The learners are 21 pupils with difficult circumstances of the charity class of teacher Nguyen Thi Duc.

As said by Nguyen Thi Duc, her pupils are fatherless or motherless children, orphans, children with disabilities, etc. Her pupils love swimming in the sea, but Duc cannot afford to pay swimming lesson fees. Therefore, Duc is happy that the City Center of Culture, Information and Sports and Vinh Phuoc Ward People's Committee opens free swimming class for her pupils. The center also gave free life jackets and swimming goggles to the children. The children are happy too and attend the swimming class regularly and excitedly.

After nearly 1 month, most of the children know how to swim and have learned some basic water safety skills. “I liked swimming in the sea, but I couldn’t swim and was afraid of drowning. The difficult circumstances of my family didn’t allow me to take swimming classes. After taking the free swimming lessons, I now know how to swim and can swim in the sea,” said Tran Ngoc Thi Tran aged 12.

The children can swim after nearly 1 month

Nha Trang is implementing a program to prevent drowning accidents among children. After the class jointly organized by Nha Trang City Center of Culture, Information and Sports and Vinh Phuoc Ward People's Committee ends, the organization committee will assess its quality and result and continue to open free swimming classes for children with difficult circumstances in other wards such as Vinh Hai, Vinh Hoa, etc.
