Last weekend, the sports arena of the Provincial Sports Competition Service Center (Bao An Ward) became bustling with Vovinam tournament for age groups 2025 joined by more than 370 Vovinam players from 41 clubs, units and localities across the province. This was the 2nd movement sports tournament organized by the provincial sports sector in the southern area since the merger of Khanh Hoa Province and Ninh Thuan Province.
Previously, in September, the Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism organized the 2025 football tournament for 13-year-old players with 16 teams from localities and football centers in the province at the southern regional stadium (Bao An Ward). The tournament attracted a large number of spectators. Doan Trung Hau, head coach of Dream Football team of Phan Rang, was happy the tournament was organized in the province’s southern area. “This tournament creates a playground for children in the southern area. I hope the tournament will keep being organized in the future to discover talent for Khanh Hoa football," said the coach.
As said by Nguyen Tuan Thanh, deputy director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, after the merger of the two provinces, the province’s sports sector proactively developed a plan to organize movement sports tournaments in the southern area instead of in the central wards of Nha Trang as before. This not only makes efficient use of existing facilities and equipment but also helps local public sports movement spread more widely and deeply. The initial success is evident in the football tournament for 13-year-old players and the Vovinam tournament for age groups, which drew hundreds of players and teams from different communes, wards and clubs.
Currently, the sports facilities across the province are facing many difficulties. One reason is that many facilities were built a long time ago and have degraded from extended use. Furthermore, changes in public demand for sports activities have resulted in a notable imbalance of resources. Previously, track and field, table tennis, tennis, and badminton are strongly developed movement sports. Now, most people are playing sports like pickleball. According to Nguyen Tuan Thanh, to motivate and boost the sports movement in the province, especially football, table tennis and martial arts, the province’s sports sector needs to continue to cooperate with local authorities to organize more tournaments, expand tournaments’ scale and gradually improve their quality.
