Efforts to improve traffic safety

Thanks to drastic measures taken by local authorities, much improvement in traffic safety has been gained with traffic accidents significantly down in the first 6 months of 2023.

According to Nguyen Van Dan, Director of the Department of Transport, Deputy Chief of the Provincial Traffic Safety Standing Committee, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee issued a plan in late April to implement the Prime Minister’s Directive No. 10 on enhancing traffic safety and order in the new situation. In particular, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested localities to strengthen inspection and investigation with strict punishment imposed on violations of the traffic law, actions against Law enforcement officers.

 

Speed guns are used to measure the speed of vehicles running on National Road.

 

Thanks to the drastic measures, in the first 6 months, the number of road crash has declined. However, traffic is expected to hike in the last 6 months. Localities were asked to strengthen measures to assure traffic safety and traffic accident decrease in terms of 3 criteria. 

According to Senior Colonel Nguyen Trong Thang, Deputy Chief of the Traffic Police Department of the Provincial Public Security, the traffic police force in the province will strengthen patrols to raise compliance with the road traffic law, ensure safe travel for residents and tourists, especially on national highways and provincial roads, at the construction sites of Ngoc Hoi intersection and Xom Bong Bridge; conduct rail crossing inspections at crossings without guards or in locations where people often trespass or cross tracks illegally; boost inspection at Nha Trang Tourist Port and over Nha Trang Bay and Cai River tours together with propaganda for inland waterway travel safety.

Furthermore, the provincial Traffic Safety Committee also ordered the Department of Transport to direct relevant units to check and speed up the progress of construction works, strengthen traffic infrastructure inspection; direct the Traffic Inspectors to strengthen patrols, and strictly handle violations of traffic safety order, inspection over overloading,  illegal parking, road space encroachment, failure to vehicle GPS tracking requirements, etc.
