The pagoda is located in Nha Trang Urban Area, to the south-east, by the National Route 1A, at the foot of the Trai Thuy Hill. On Trai Thuy Hill, there are 3 pagodas with a giant buddha statue situated on the top. The three pagodas are Long Son, right at the foot, Hai Duc and Buu Phong (or Linh Phong) to the south. The most remarkable are Long Son and Hai Duc.
The Long Son Pagoda was built not long before the August Revolution. Its architecture is not very special but its terrain is fantastic and convenient for travellers to call at on their sight-seeing tours. The pagoda boasts a high and airy position with lush green trees. Lying in the crowded residental region by the routes, the pagoda still keeps a meditative and peaceful atmosphere.
Hai Duc is situated on the top, west of the Trai Thuy Hill. Enjoying the most solemn and wonderful terrain, it is one of the biggest pagodas remaining in Khanh Hoa Province. The pagoda used to be a branch of the Buddhist Institute of Central Vietnam. From the Long Son Pagoda, there is quite a large path on the hill up to the Hai Duc Pagoda and to the the vast statue of the buddha located on the crest. Rows of institutes, offices,… form an enormous pagoda situated in the middle of lines of luxuriant shady bodhi trees together with orchard trees such as jackfruit, mango, carambola,… All creates an atmosphere of meditation, quietness, mystery and supernature. Especially, from this site, we can get a fantastic panoramic view of Nha Trang City as a vivid colouful picture of numerous and close-set houses, criss-cross roads, darkgreen terrains inland, forests of coconut trees, rivers… ahead and the vast sea in a distance. The scenery of the Long Son Pagoda and the surroundings is atttractive not only to visitors but also to film-makers, both Vietnamese and foreign. Those who have ever seen documentary or feature films depicting the sceney of Nha Trang surely adore its beauty which is even more attractive with embellishments to the artists’ eyes.
