The Ministry of Culture, Sport & Tourism and Vietnam Administration of Tourism have just announced the top ten tourism events in 2012 at a press conference. The list was voted by tourism journalists.

Khanh Hoa becomes a tourism highlight of the Central region and the country.

1. Vietnam welcomed 6.847 million international and 32.5 million domestic tourist arrivals in 2012 with the total revenue of VND160,000 billion. The tourism sector fulfilled the basic norms.

2. 2012 National Tourism Year for the North Central Coastal Region and Hue was held in Hue City. The event themed Heritage Tourism featured nearly 20 cultural, sports and tourism activities reflecting the culture of North Central Coastal provinces, especially Hue City.

3. Ha Long Bay was recognized as one of the Seven New Natural Wonders of the World on April 27. The event contributed to promoting the value of the bay and attracting more domestic and international tourists.

4. The 8th International Tourism Expo (ITE HCMC 2012) took place on September 13-15 in Ho Chi Minh City with the theme “Four Countries, One Destination” attracting over 500 businesses from 30 countries across the world.

5. New logo and slogan were selected for Vietnam’s tourism for the period of 2012 – 2015. The logo depicted a five petal lotus representing the country’s traditional cultural identity and the slogan was ‘Vietnam – Timeless Charm’.

6. Three Vietnamese hotels named among 500 world’s best hotels by the Travel + Leisure Magazine. They were Nam Hai, Hoi An City, Hanoi-based Sofitel Legend Metropole and Ho Chi Minh City-based Park Hyatt.

7. Vietnam organized effectively many tourism promotion and marketing programs in key international markets, including England, Germany, Russia, Japan, the Republic of Korea.

8. 50% of tourist areas were assured to have western standard toilet systems.

9. Da Nang, Binh Thuan and Khanh Hoa became tourism highlights of the Central region and the country.

10. Top travel businesses and hotels in 2011 were honored at the Hanoi Opera House. Ten five-star, ten four-star and ten three-star hotels and two resorts as well as ten international and ten domestic travel businesses were presented the ‘Vietnam’s Leading Tourism Business’ award.
