Qualified labors are needed for the local tourism industry.

Le Xuan An, Principal of Nha Trang Tourism Vocational College, says unqualified workforces are among challenges facing the tourism industry in Khanh Hoa as well as other southern coastal provinces. Some school leavers do not meet actual work requirements, especially in foreign language communication skills.

More effort is needed to bring employers and vocational schools to exchange information for recruitment purposes and to explore potential fits.

Therefore, it is essential to have some good school/business partnerships to ensure that schools focus on employability and also on understanding the skills required in the local community to maximize employment opportunities.

Le Quoc Da, a director of an Indian restaurant chain says some college leavers are quite good at foreign languages, but they lack self-confidence and actual knowledge.

Therefore, the schools need to invite leaders of some big travel businesses, competent tour guides or foreign experts to give talks at schools, so that students can learn more actual experience.

Do Thi Tuyet Nhung, Chief of Training Bureau of the Sheraton Nha Trang, says besides basic occupational knowledge and foreign language skills, the schools need to promote students’ love for the tourism career they have chosen.

Apart from occupational skills, tourism students must learn traditions of many countries as well as soft skills known as communication, creative problem solving skills, conflict resolution and negotiation abilities, etc are necessary.

According to Bui Xuan Luong, Chief of a tourism professional office, the Department of Culture, Sport & Tourism, nearly 18,000 people are working in the tourism industry in Khanh Hoa Province.

Additional 15,000 labors will be required in 5 years. Therefore, it is vital that schools’ curricula should be adjusted to better prepare young people for employment to meet the future labor market requirement.
