Khanh Son District, Khanh Hoa Province, is blessed with many untapped potentials scattered by nature.

The first impression of Khanh Son is maybe a temperate climate with mist drifting around mountains. Roads to To Hap Town are fringed with paddy fields alternated with corn and banana farms where few scattered houses can be seen.

The land is also attractive with the images of tawny-skinned Raglai children with cute big black eyes, Raglai girls with baskets on their backs working on fields.

Khanh Son District boasts various tourist attractions. 40m Ta Gu Waterfall, Son Hiep Commune, is considered one of the most gorgeous cascades of Khanh Hoa Province. Surrounded by a primeval forest, the site is also called Stone Elephant Tusk Waterfall because it looks like a giant elephant’s tusk.

Ta Gu was recognized a provincial-level monument by Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee in 2009. Coming to Ta Gu, travelers will also have a chance to learn about Raglai people’s life while enjoying their local rustic food and fruit specialties such as durians, mangosteens, star apples, etc.

Apart from Ta Gu, there are many other tourist attractions, including Doc Quy Waterfall, Doc Gao, To Hap Revolutionary Base and so on. The land is also well known for the Raglai culture with traditional musical instruments called lithophones first found in 1979.

Every night, by a camping fire are old men telling Akha Duka epics and young people singing and dancing in the remedy of folk music, which can relieve local people’s stress and tiredness from a hard working day. In 2012, Bo ma rituals were recognized to be national intangible cultural heritages.

The district leaders have made great effort to awaken the local tourism potentials by showcasing the destination as well as attracting investment in tourism. However, much more work needs to be done.

A detailed festival tourism development project is essential along with marketing and product development initiatives.

Reportedly, some enterprises after surveys have planned to invest in the land. This is a satisfactory signal for Khanh Son.

If properly harnessed, Khanh Son will become a unique tourist destination in the southwest of Khanh Hoa.
