Khanh Hoa corrects illegal foreign signboards

Under the guidance of Propaganda and Training Department of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee, recently, Inspectorate of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism have gone on an inspection tour about the implementation of advertisement on signboards in Nha Trang City.

According to the Law on Advertisement, text on signboards must be in Vietnamese. In case of using both Vietnamese and foreign languages on a same signboard, foreign text must be under Vietnamese text and its size is not allowed to be larger than three-fourths of the latter’s. However, to attract foreign tourists, especially Russian tourists increasing sharply now, most signboards in some streets like Hung Vuong, Nguyen Thien Thuat, Tran Quang Khai, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, etc. are in foreign languages.

Over 10 days, the inspectorate have checked 88 businesses in two streets Hung Vuong and Nguyen Thien Thuat. All of them broke the law. Some had no Vietnamese on their signboards while others violated the size of texts. 9 businesses with serious violation have been fined VND18.5 million in total. Other businesses have committed to repair their signboards. The inspection tour will last till May 15.

“Firstly, the inspectorate will warn violators and request them to sign an undertaking to repair their signboards. Then, if they don’t do it right, they will be fined. After the inspection tour, the duty will be entrusted to People’s Committee of wards and communes to keep the advertisement on signboards in the city right to the law”, said Le Quang Lich, Chief of the Inspectorate.
