Some monuments and tourist spots in Nha Trang like Hon Chong, Ponagar Temple, Khanh Hoa provincial Museum and the Institute of Oceanography have professional narrators who introduce tourists about the destinations.

Tran Thi Thu Hien, a narrator from the provincial Monument Conservation Center, said, “I’ve worked as a narrator at Ponagar Temple for three years. I like to introduce visitors about history, culture, belief and architecture of the relic. I feel happiest when visitors listen to me and ask interesting questions.”

“I always try to make my narration attractive. Sometimes I may meet difficult situations but understanding the tourists’ demands helps me handle them”, said Hoang The Mi, another narrator from the provincial Monument Conservation Center.

Narrator Hien, wearing Ao Dai and conical hat, tells tourists about Ponagar Temple.

Currently, the provincial Monument Conservation Center has a staff of 10 narrators. All of them are university or college graduates in foreign language or tourism. 4 of them get international tourist guide license and 4 have domestic tourist guide license. Only in the first five months of 2014, the whole staff gave narration to 1,100 groups of 22,800 visitors, 1/3 of whom were foreigners.

Evaluating the narrator staff, PhD Le Thi My Binh, Tourism – Culture Faculty of Nha Trang Teachers’ College said, “I’ve tested the staff twice. I highly appreciate their knowledge and skills.”

To raise the quality for the narrators, the provincial Vestige Conservation Center frequently invites lecturers from universities to update their knowledge and skills. The center also often sends the narrators to other provinces to learn experience. As the number of Russian tourists to Nha Trang rises sharply, the narrators have taken a Russian class to communicate with Russian tourists.
