Coming to a wharf in Vinh Hoa Ward, Nha Trang at 4:30 am one day, we got on a boat for a sea fishing trip, which brought us a lot of interesting experiences.
The boat glided smoothly on the calm sea of the morning, taking us to Hon Dun. Steering the boat is a fisherman named Do Huu Sao, who is familiar with the waters here and has many years’ experience in carrying tourists to suitable places for fishing like Mui Dien, Hon Dun, Hon Cha La in Nha Trang, Mui Co in Ninh Hoa Town or Bai Dai in Cam Lam District. On the way, he introduced us the fishing grounds and kinds of fish there. And we reached Hon Dun when the daylight came. Despite being seasick a little, we all were eager to start fishing.
An experienced fisherman named Phan Van Tuong said to us, “Tools for fishing are very simple. You can buy fishing rod in Dam Market. Small anchovies are good baits. We also need some fish hooks.”
Till the sun rose, we fished a lot. Everyone felt happy as fishing many kinds of fish like groupers, leather jacket fish, horsehead fish, parrot fish, etc.
The boat steerer Sao cooked the lunch for us from some fresh fish we had caught. We had lunch on the boat and then continued fishing in more two times. Collecting a lot of fish, we returned ashore with many funs.
According to Sao, in the recent time, some small inshore fishing boats have changed to carrying tourists to fishing tours. In Nha Trang, there are some points having such boats, including Hon Ro, Cau Da and Vinh Hoa. Each boat, costing VND600,000 – VND1 million/trip, can carry 8 – 9 people. In recent years, more and more people have taken such fishing tours. Sea fishing is an interesting experience to spend.
