In the situation of decrease in the number of Russian tourists, Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa tourism sees a good sign when the figure of Korean visitors to the province is on the rise.

The number of Korean visitors to the province made a sharp increase in 2014. According to statistics of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the province received nearly 60,000 Korean tourists in 2014, a 95% increase over the previous year, ranking the second, after Russian tourists, in countries and territories having visitors to the province. Korean tourists almost are high spenders. They often stay in 3-4 hotels and resorts like Diamond Bay, Sheraton, Sunrise, Novotel, Vinpearl, etc and use expensive tourist products such as golf, mud bath and high-class cuisine.

Korean people like travel, especially in winter. To avoid the cold in their country, they often travel to warm places and Nha Trang is such a destination. According to some Korean tour operators, infrastructures as well as tourist products of Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa can satisfy demands of Korean tourists. Beside Korean visitors coming to Nha Trang from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, there have been two direct flights a week carrying about 150 passengers on each from Seoul to Cam Ranh International Airport since November, 2014.

Despite the good growth rate, the number of Korean visitors has still made up 10% of the total visitors and their staying time has been still short (under 7 days). Accordingly, the earning from them hasn’t come into prominence. Promotion should be made better to impulse the development of Korean visitors to Khanh Hoa, according to Deputy director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Phan Thanh Truc.

Luyen Manh Cuong, deputy director of the provincial Tourism Promotion Information Center, said, “To promote the market of Korean tourists, we need to study their potentials, tastes and demands as well as join international events to popularize the image of Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa tourism to them more.”
