Over 40 years of building and development, tourism has become a key economy of Khanh Hoa Province with a recognized trademark.
 
 
The period of 1975 – 1989 laid the ground for the province’ tourism. The economic mechanism set up for the province was agriculture – industry – service and tourism. The establishment of Phu Khanh Tourism Company (the precursor of Khanh Hoa Tourism Co., Ltd.) on March 3, 1976 marked the first activity of the province’s tourism. Following were some businesses like Nha Trang Hotel Company, Nha Trang Shipchandler Company, etc, some hotels like Hai Yen, Grand, Thang Loi, Thong Nhat, Nha Trang, Bao Dai Villa and some guest houses.
 
The period of 1989 – 2000 was the time of rising and building trademark of Khanh Hoa’s tourism. It expanded scale and confirmed position. In 1993, Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Tourism founded, marking a new step of the industry. Especially, the eighth Provincial Party Congress in April, 1996 defined to transfer the economic mechanism towards putting up the density of industry, service and tourism, and forming key industries. Accordingly, the province facilitated investment in tourism. Labor training and infrastructure development was invested deeply. As a result, many hotels, travel firms and tourist businesses opened, creating a tourism market in the province, especially in Nha Trang.
 
In end 2000, the whole province had 168 hotels with 3,414 rooms. 90 out of the hotels belonged to non-State economic sector. There were several 3-5 star hotels, namely Evason Ana Mandara, Nha Trang Lodge, Yasaka-Saigon-Nhatrang, Que Huong, Vien Dong and Hai Yen. There were 52 travel firms, 4 of which sold outbound tours. Tourist products became more diversified. More tours were opened. Many entertainment  spots served tourists such as Four Seasons, Hon Tam, Doc Let and Tri Nguyen Aquarium. Then, tourism became a key economy of the province. Most of tourism norms saw an average rise of 15% - 17%. Tourism made up 34.6% of the province’s GDP. The trademark of Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa tourism created faith in tourists.
 
 
From 2001 up to now, the province’s tourism have made a breakthrough. All tourism norms have risen by 15% - 25% per year on average. Services for tourists have become abundant. The province has a number of entertainment and tourist spots. Some places of international stature such as Vinpearl Land and Diamond Bay have opened. Tourism environment in the province has been improved, encouraging investors and businesses. “Good results of the province are thanks to the care from the provincial authorities and the coordination among departments, localities as well as businesses. More and more airlines and travel firms have carried tourists to Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa. Beside building Nha Trang as a modern tourist city, we are expanding tourism in potential areas like Van Phong, Bai Dai, etc.”, said Truong Dang Tuyen, Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
 
 
In 2014, the total tourism turnover of the province hit VND6,000 billion. The total number of visitors was 3.6 million, including 847,000 international ones. Now, the whole province has 572 hotels and resorts with 16,146 rooms. The province locates many 5-star hotels and resorts like Vinpearl Luxury, Six Senses Ninh Van Bay, Mia Resort, Amiana Resort, Sunrise, Sheraton, InterContinental, Havana, etc. 155 travel firms, including 37 international ones.
 
 
With such achievement, it’s possible to say that Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa tourism has made comprehensive changes during the past 40 years.
