In Khanh Hoa, responsible tourism has been done by many enterprises and organizations for its benefits in developing society and protecting environment.
Practical activities
For example, in response to a sustainable development program called Planet 21 launched by Accor Group, annually, Novotel Nha Trang Hotel organizes many activities to raise the awareness of environmental protection for its staff and guests. Recently, the hotel grew green trees in Son Ca Nursery School and Cao Van Be Secondary School in the mountainous district Khanh Vinh. Teresa Cooper, an Australian tourist joining this event, said, “I’m very eager with this activity. It not only partly makes the land greener but also is an interesting experience in my trip.” The hotel also appealed to its staff and guests to donate their old things for a auction sale to help orphans and lonely elder people in the province.
Michelia is also a hotel with a lot of activities toward the community and environment such as turning off lights on Earth Hour, supporting the World Environment Day, holding charity trips to orphanages as well as remote areas, joining blood donation. “We hope the activities will partly help needy children. It’s a practical way we’ve contributed into developing the society”, said Phan Minh Tri, Deputy Director of Michelia Hotel.
Every year, Travel Branch of Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa Tourism Association organizes for residents, students and tourists to clean Nha Trang Beach. Emulation block of tourist enterprises in the province also holds environmental protection day to grow green trees and collect garbage. Many travel firms have community tours, ecological tours and environmental protection tours. Many hotels have encouraged guests to save water and power in their rooms.
Responsible tourism has been supported because it not only helps to diminish negative impacts on economy, society and environment, but also brings benefits to local people such as raising income, improving working conditions, and preserving natural as well as cultural heritages.
In a training class about responsible tourism held in Nha Trang recently, lecturer Huynh My Linh, from the EU Project Management in Vietnam, confirmed, “Raising the community’s awareness of responsible tourism is necessary. It helps to keep the sustaining of destinations and make tourism more diversified.”
“To make responsible tourism go deep into the awareness of enterprises and tourists, it’s necessary to intensify propaganda and build policies and strategies to develop this kind of tourism. Tourist enterprises should set up responsible tourist products and guide tourists to do responsible activities”, she advised.
