Wanting to take a tour to Nha Trang on a weekend but not booking air tickets and hotel rooms in advance, Nguyen Thanh Dai’s family (from Hanoi) joined a group tour. “We joined in a group of 15. Cost for such a trip is 20% cheaper than that of fixed tours. Its program is very interesting. We had time to experience features of each destination we came”, he praised.
A Vietnamese American named Pham Thi Ly, used to be a visitor to Nha Trang in a join-in group tour as her family were not familiar with the country. She chose this kind of tour operated by a travel firm to feel secure about transport, accommodation, entertainment, etc..

According to Nguyen Hong Phi Nguyen, director of Anhnguyentour Company, a join-in group tour operator in Nha Trang, join-in group tour is basically similar to fixed tour for groups. However, join-in tour aims to individual travelers who don’t book transportation and accommodation by themselves. “Only two people can make a join-in tour. Tour prices depend on their tour program they choose. Price of join-in tour is always lower than that of fixed tours”, Nguyen said.
Join-in tours have existed for a long time in the world as well as in Vietnam. In Nha Trang, join-in tours have appeared for about 3 years by several travel firms.
According to Bui Xuan Luong, Chief of Tourism Profession of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, join-in tours often are operated by small and medium-sized tourist businesses. To maintain this tour kind sustainably, businesses need to cooperate with each other to keep the number of tourists and ensure tour quality.
