The theme of the Tourism World Day shows that the world appreciates the sustainable development of tourism in the socioeconomic development. The United Nations General Assembly has announced the adoption of 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development. This is the time for us to forward tourism to develop sustainably for a better future.
- Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa is a big tourist center in Vietnam. Does tourism in the province develop sustainably?

In Khanh Hoa Province’s socioeconomic development strategy, tourism has been confided as a key economic industry. In 2016, tourism turnover of the province was VND13,000 billion, creating jobs for thousands of people. In the first eight months of 2017, Khanh Hoa Province received 3.8 million tourists (a 20% rise year-on-year), including 1.3 million (a 80% rise year-on-year), getting VND11,526 billion in total turnover from tourism (a 32% rise year-on-year). It proves that tourism has much contribution into the development of the province.
To social effect, tourism has created jobs directly for about 27,800 laborers. As forecast, from now to 2020, the province’s tourism needs more 9,300 laborers each year. In addition, tourism has also created stable jobs with good income for many other people working in services for tourists like food and drinks, entertainment, shopping, etc.
To environment, tourism not only exploits natural landscape for visiting but also contributes in preserving and enriching the nature. Ecological tourist areas and resorts have been built in harmony with nature, natural reserve areas have been conserved, salt – marsh forests have been recovered, Nha Trang bay has become cleaner…Those are results of tourism development associated with environment protection. Beside this, local traditional cultural features have been kept and introduced to visitors. Most travel firms in Khanh Hoa have tours related to culture, for example, countryside tour takes tourists to traditional villages, traditional rites, etc. Khanh Hoa tourism also has Cham dance at Ponagar Temple, traditional musical instruments, water puppet…More and more foreign tourists coming to Nha Trang is a lively proof for the hospitable land with good security and order. Tourism of Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa is developing incessantly towards sustainability.
