Some spiritual spots in Nha Trang like Ponagar Temple, Long Son Pagoda, Nha Trang Cathedral, etc. have regulations on dressing to visitors. The implementation has done well so far.
Coming to Ponagar Temple one day, we saw a large number of tourists visiting this place. When tourists wanted to enter the temples but they were wearing short clothes, the staff gave them Buddhist long robes to put over their clothes. ”We have more than 100 long robes with many sizes for visitors. The robes are washed everyday”, said Nguyen Tuan Dung, deputy director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Vestige Conservation.
At Nha Trang Cathedral, visitors with irregular clothing are not allowed to be in ceremony areas. In Long Son Pagoga, visitors also can borrow long robes to put over their clothes before entering the worship places. “Wearing polite clothes when visiting solemn places is good. It also makes visitors have good behavior when coming such places”, said a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City, named Nguyen Trong Dong.
Polite dressing in cultural and religious places is required in many places in Southeast Asia. For example, to enter Batu Caves in Malaysia or Buddha worship places in India, visitors are given suitable dress right at gate. Travel companies should inform more to tourists when taking them to religious places.
The provincial Department of Tourism has given training to representatives of more than 100 travel companies in the province about regulations on visiting Nha Trang Cathedral and Long Son Pagoda. Visitors to the places are required to dress well. The implementation has done well so far.
