Management board of Nha Trang Bay is promptly repairing damage caused by the storm Damrey in Hon Mun ecological tourist site and upgrade its facilities. The first phase is expected to be finished by the lunar new year festival (Tet).
After the storm, many works of Hon Mun ecological tourist site have been damaged. The quay to the island was collapsed by waves, roof of information center for tourists was blown up, more than 20 cottages and souvenir shops were destroyed, interior roads were broken down. Moreover, 50% of corals at the depth of 3 – 4 meters in Hon Mun Reserve were broken.
Because of the damages, the management board of Nha Trang Bay has closed Hon Mun Reserve since November 6 to repair damages. All the staff have cleaned the site to keep the environment. Besides, patrol force of the bay management board have intensified protecting the reserve to prevent violation.

The management board of Nha Trang Bay has attached importance to rehabilitating damaged coral reefs. With the consultancy of professional scientists, solutions to the rehabilitation have been carried out promptly. “We choose coral reefs broken but still good to re-grow in the north of Hon Mun to set up a nursery garden. In addition, we are surveying coral reefs to have specific assessment”, said Dam Hai Van, manger of reserve of the Nha Trang Bay management board.
To repairing damaged works, the bay’s management board has finished design investigation and submitted it to the People’s Committee of Nha Trang City. Expense to re-build the quay of Mun Island in particular is expected to be about VND2 billion.
Huynh Binh Thai, director of Nha Trang Bay management board, said, “We attend to recovering coral reefs the most as it requires professional science as well as techniques and doing it underwater is a difficult condition. It takes at least 5 years to rehabilitate the coral reefs like the time before the storm. To the quay and other works on Mun Island, when our submission is adopted by the city People’s Committee, we will execute immediately and strives to put its first phase into operation by the lunar new year festival (Tet).
