Beside sea and island tourism as the main advantage of Khanh Hoa, the province has a lot of potentials in cultural tourism.
Ponagar Temple is always crowded with visitors now. It’s easy to see a lot of groups of tourists listening to guides to introduce about the legend of Ponagar Goddess as well as the forming process of temples. According to Tran Dinh Dung - Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Monument Preservation Center, Ponagar Temple receives 5,000 – 6,000 visitors a day, and the figure came up to 9,000 – 10,000 on Lunar New Year days. Long Son Pagoda also received a large number of visitors.
According to some experts, spiritual tourism in Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa is very potential. Beside Ponagar Temple and Long Son Pagoda, there are many other potential places for this kind of tourism like Suoi Do, Am Chua, Gac Ma monument, C235 boat monument, Trinh Phong temple, Tran Quy Cap temple, etc. In recent cutural seminars, some researchers suggested setting spiritual tour Am Chua – Suoi Do – Ponagar Temple. “Ponagar Temple, Am Chua and Suoi Do have close connection in culture and may become a route for spiritual tourism. The three places help visitors understand about the worskip of Thien Y A Na Goddess in Khanh Hoa Province . A lot of pilgrims have come to these places. Finding tendency to exploit to uphold this value sustainably is necessary”, said Master Nguyen Thang Long, from Vietnam Institute of Cultural Studies in Hue.
According to Nguyen Van Thanh – Vice-chairman of Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa Tourism Association, spiritual tourism in Vietnam is not only visiting regilious works in other countries but also the worship beliefs as well as the gratitude to heroes and ancestors of the country. There’s idea to put Gac Ma monument and C235 boat monument as destinations in spiritual tours. Developing spiritual and cultural tourism is not only doing business but bringing spiritual values for the society.
