Khanh Son District (Khanh Hoa Province) is developing measures to exploit the local potentials and advantages associated to traditional culture to step up the socioeconomic development.
Khanh Son District has cool weather with beautiful natural landscapes suitable to develop ecological tourism. The highlight is Ta Gu waterfall in Son Hiep Commune with imposing landscape and cool water. Besides, Doc Quy waterfall (in Son Lam Commune), Suoi Da (in Ba Cum Bac Commune), etc. are potential places to develop ecological tourism.
From the plain to Khanh Son District, travelers can go on Tinh lo 9 (the provincial road 9) winding through spectacular mountain sceneries. Travelers can stop on the peak of the mountain pass to contemplate the landscape. On the way to Thanh Son Commune, the last spot pf the district, travelers can stop at A Pa Buoi Bridge and Son Binh Bridge to see To Hap River running towards the upper reaches or sit in cool pine hills to relax. Travelers also can visit fruit gardens to enjoy famous local farm products like mangosteens, durians, rambutans, purple sugarcane, etc.
Coming to Khanh Son District, visitors can learn culture of the ethnic minority people Raglai with their traditional rites, folk songs, unique traditional instruments, etc.
First steps
According to Khanh Son District People’s Committee , to exploit potentials to develop ecological tourism in combination with culture, cuisine and garden tours, the district has built up and exploited Project to develop tourism in Khanh Son District till 2020 and view to 2030. The district has restored Nha Dai (in Hon Dung Hamlet, Son Hiep Commune) to reappear cultural life of Raglai people to serve visitors, repaired the road to Ta Gu waterfall, surveyed some places to develop community tourism, opened classes to teach Raglai music instruments, restored knitting to create specific products, etc.
According to the project, Son Hiep is considered as the main place to receive tourists. In 2017, the commune received 1,900 domestic and international tourists. “Beside restoring traditional culture, the commune has done marketing for the destination’s images like Nha Dai, Ta Gu waterfall, Son Hiep – Son Binh pine forest. The commune and Cam Lam District Vocational Training School have jointly opened a tourism class to prepare human resource for tourism”, said Tran Tan Chong, Chairman of Son Hiep Commune People’s Committee.
According to the project, the district targets to welcome about 10,000 visitors till 2020, build 1 - 3 ecological tourism spots and welcome about 15,000 visitors. “To carry out the target, from 2018, the district will do comply with formalities to set up some works for tourism development, for example building a rest stop on the mountain pass peak, expanding Cay Da area in Ba Cum bac Commune, building square and park by the monument at the district’s gate, upgrading road to Ta Gu waterfall, calling businesses to invest in infrastructures and tourist products in the district, etc.” said Dinh Ngoc Binh, Chairman of Khanh Son District People’s Committee.
