Vietnam National Administration of Tourism for many years have called responsible tourism, which highlights environmental protection in tourism development. To develop tourism sustainably, Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa tourism need attend to environmental protection.
In Khanh Hoa Province, many tourism businesses have attended to environmental protection. For example, Long Phu Tourist Company has set up a park with a lot of works made from garbage to propagandize environmental protection.
According to Tran Van Huong, director of Environment Plant of Nha Trang Urban Environment Joint Stock Company, Nha Trang City disposes of 470 – 490 tons of garbage each day. The amount in Loc Tho Ward particularly where many hotels and restaurants are located in is about 40 tons. Obviously, the influence of tourism activities on environment is big. Therefore, the tourism department needs to have action plans as well as measures to protect environment.
“Beat Plastic Pollution”, the theme for World Environment 2018, urges governments, industry, communities, and individuals to come together and explore sustainable alternatives and urgently reduce the production and excessive use of single-use plastic polluting our oceans, damaging marine life and threatening human health. Nha Trang City has popularized this theme by panels.
However, the city should have more practical campaigns to call locals and tourists to reduce use of plastic bags.
The national tourism development strategy till 2020 and view to 2030 specifies to develop tourism deeply. Khanh Hoa Province is also building tourism as a key economy. Beside developing good-quality tourist products and services, building the trademark and raise competitiveness, Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa tourism department should lead environment protection in tourism. “If Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa Tourism Association mobilizes businesses to commit reducing and quit using plastic bags, we are willing to respond it”, said Le Dung Lam, director of Long Phu Tourist Company.
