Cuisine in Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa is appreciated to be diversified and suitable for developing tours combined with cooking classes. However, such few tours have been organized.
Tu Hai Trading - Tourist Service Co., Ltd has just launched an island tour combining with cooking class. In this tour, the company takes tourists to visit Nha Trang Bay, do scuba diving to see corals in Mun Island, visit Tri Nguyen Island, etc. In particular, tourists can join in a cooking class with Vietnamese dishes like rolls and pancakes. Foreign visitors like to make rolls and pancakes very much. “I really like Vietnamese cuisine. So, when I knew this tour, I immediately signed up. Vietnamese spring roll is very delicious and also easy to make. After this trip, I will make this dish for my family in Korea”, Kim Young Ae, a Korean tourist said.
According to Truong Thiet Vu, deputy director of Tu Hai Trading - Tourism Service Co., Ltd., the tour is designed aiming to foreign tourists. Just opened but it has got a lot of good feedbacks from tourists. Korean tourists like two dishes of spring rolls and pancakes very much.
In Vietnam in general and Nha Trang in particular, tours with cooking class tour are not new. However, only a few companies have made this type of tour so far. Five-star Evason Ana Mandara Resort once had a cooking class for their guests. In this activity, the chef of the resort led guests to the market, guided them to choose food for them to experience a Vietnamese market, then they returned to the resort to cook. Guests made dishes by themselves, and enjoyed the dishes. Memento tourist area in Dien Khanh District also cooperated with travel agencies to organize country tours which enabled tourists to pick vegetables, make pancakes, etc.
Five-star Vietnamese beach resort, The Anam, launched its ‘Pho Pilgrimage’ cultural food tour. Joining this tour, guests visited vegetable garden, rural market and Pho producing place to buy materials. Then, the chef took them to his house in the countryside. There, guests were taught how to cook Pho. Finally, guests enjoyed Pho they cooked. They were also given a cooking guide book before returning to the resort. Many guests shared that, owing to this class, they learned about Vietnamese cuisine such as how to use spices and how to make the Vietnamese traditional dish.
More than 10 years ago, in a visit to Vietnam, Philip Kotler, the father of modern marketing encouraged Vietnam to be kitchen of the world, which showed that in addition to local historical and cultural values, Vietnamese cuisine is like a special "ambassador" to promote Vietnam's image to the world.
In tourism workshops, a lot of travel experts said that the rich cuisine in Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa is suitable for developing culinary tours. The province needs to encourage tour operators to open culinary tours. Teaching cooking is one of good ways to introduce the local cusine to the world. They not only understood the deliciousness and the originality of the food, but also saw the life and farming methods of the local people and learned about meaning in each dish. That is also a way to make Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa tourism more diversified.
