Viet Nam wins prestigious award as Asia's Leading Destination 2 consecutive times

On 12 October, the World Travel Awards (WTA) Asia & Oceania Gala Ceremony 2019 was organized in Vinpearl Convention Center Phu Quoc (Kien Giang Province).

This was the first time Viet Nam hosted the WTA Gala Awards of Asia and Oceania. The event was a great opportunity to promote Viet Nam tourism image in the eyes of international tourists as well as the world's leading tourism brands.
 
The event had the attendance of Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh - Chairman of Vietnam National Administration of  Tourism; Mr. Graham Cooke, the Founder and President of the World Travel Awards, and the finest travel brands in Asia & Oceania and media agencies.
 
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman Nguyen Trung Khanh expressed his thanks to World Travel Awards for choosing Phu Quoc, Viet Nam to be the venue of this prestige event of the industry. This beautiful and romantic Island is being applied priority policies by the Government of Viet Nam that creates a hub for huge investors in major fields of the industry who have brought a plenty of the world’s top brands to the island.

Viet Nam is one of the fastest growing tourism countries in the world. In 2018, Viet Nam received 15.5 million international arrivals, which was almost double of that figure for 2015. This reflects average rate of around 30% year by year. Tourism contributes over 8.3% of Viet Nam’s GDP. This year, Viet Nam expects to receive 17.5 to 18 million of international arrivals to Viet Nam and gradually turns tourism into spear head economic sector of our country, he added.
 
Particularly, he expressed his happiness to receive the official nominee notification from World Travel Awards that Viet Nam is being voted to be the World’s Leading Culinary Destination. Culinary is definitely one of Viet Nam’s strongest fields and has been well approved and recognized all over the world.

In the 26th WTA, Viet Nam was honnored as Asia’s Leading Destination 2019, Asia’s Leading Culinary Destination 2019, Asia’s Leading Cultural Destination 2019, Asia’s Leading Cultural City Destination: Hoi An.
 
This was the second time Viet Nam won this prestigious award “Asia’s Leading Destination” after the 2018 award. Especially, this was the first time Viet Nam was honored as Asia’s Leading Culinary Destination. Besides, many high-class hotels and resorts, airlines, airpots, tourist destinations, travel enterprises of Viet Nam were also honored at the World Travel Awards 2019.
 

 

 
That Viet Nam received many WTA awards showed the recognition and honor of international community with the strong development of Viet Nam's tourism industry. The sucessful organization of WTA Asia and Oceania Gala Ceremony 2019 in Viet Nam also contributed to affirming Viet Nam as an ideal destination for big international events.
 

WTA was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry. Today, the WTA brand is recognized globally as the ultimate hallmark of quality, with winners setting the benchmark to which all others aspire.

Each year, WTA covers the globe with a series of regional gala ceremonies staged to recognize and celebrate individual and collective success within each key geographical region.

Asia & Oceania Gala Ceremony 2019 is the last one in a series of regional gala ceremonies of WTA Grand Tour to recognize excellence within each continent, after North America & the Caribbean (Jamaica), Middle East (Abu Dhabi, UAE), Africa & the Indian Ocean (Mauritius), Europe (Madeira, Portugal), Latin America (La Paz, Bolivia). The winners will progress to the night of the World Travel Awards Grand Final in Muscat, Oman in November 2019.
